I was born in Bashaha-Beltar, a village in eastern plains of Nepal. I later came to Kathmandu to attend Bhanubhakta Memorial School in Panipokhari. In my school years, I developed fondness for maths and science and I eventually got enrolled in Electronics Engineering program in Pulchowk Campus. After graduating, I worked as a software engineer and also joined Masters in Sociology program. During the same time, I also discovered the career of graphics designing and made the switch from software engineering to graphics designing. I was at a crossroads regarding what to pursue for further studies: Artificial Intelligence, Graphics Design or Humanities. Then, I came to know about the emerging field of education technology that would combine these multiple interests of mine. I received Fulbright Science and Technology Phd Scholarship and went to Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for my PhD studies. I did interdisciplinary research at the intersection of educational psychology, game design, datamining and artificial intelligence. In the fifth year into my PhD program, I took a gap year and came back to Nepal and started working at OLE Nepal, a non-profit working in public education in Nepal. After I defended my dissertation, I returned back to Nepal for good and continued my work at OLE Nepal.
